The Massif Challenge 2016

The Massif Challenge 2016

DC Employment Solicitors’ Laurence Dunn and two fellow keen cyclists (all three describing themselves as “in the prime of their lives”) will be taking on the challenge of riding 500 miles in relay over three days, in order to raise much needed funds for the AAIR Charity.

The ride will start at the historic walled port of St Malo with a 157 mile cycle east on to Angers. The following day is an even more gruelling 227 mile ride on to Limoges, and the final route is a 138 mile trek into the Massif Central and its volcanic mountains following in the footsteps (or cycle wheels) of this year’s Tour de France.

The AAIR charity raises funds for the world-renowned asthma, allergy and respiratory research department, at The University of Southampton Faculty of Medicine. The funds are then distributed in the form of grants to researchers in the department, who are developing new treatments and cures for airways diseases. Please see more details on our Just Giving page (link below).

The team name is (rather aptly) named ‘the Massif Stomachs’. They will take on the 500 mile challenge between the three of them, which will tax them to their limits. The team are promised they will experience exhaustion, exhilaration and adventure. This can be translated as “pain, relief at the finish line and regularly losing their way”.

The team are covering all the costs of the event themselves, so EVERY PENNY you donate will go to the charities (half goes to Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation and half to the AAIR charity).

We fully appreciate you will be regularly called upon to make donations but if you do feel able to donate towards the cause we would be very grateful indeed. No amount is too small and every donation contributes to reaching their target!

Please find more details on the challenge here and visit our Just Giving page to donate here.

Day One:img_3099

Yesterday, the ‘Massif Stomachs’ cycling team completed day one of The Massif Challenge 2016!
After 157 miles of head wind and rolling terrain (and a couple of wrong turns…) the team reached La Pommeraye for a well-earned rest!

Today saw a 6am start for the team with a long 14 hour in the saddle between them ahead. They will face an even more challenging and hillier 227 miles through Saumur, Vienne and finally along the Creuse river valley towards the foothills of the Massif Central (the most ever covered on a Challenge eve
nt in one day).

Good luck ‘Massif Stomachs’! To support our team and the great causes above, you can donate here.
